I am in love...

Life has been so crazy lately... lets just say I didn't go to bed last night (I guess this morning) until 3:30a.m., all in the name of school [insert a despondent head shake here]. So, instead of studying for my British lit test like I should, I wanted to share these amazing photos-- I just want to stare at them all night. They take your breath away. There was an exhibit at the local museum of his work a while back, which I was never able to see, but just exploring his pictures on his website here is enough.

take a look around and be inspired.

Fashion Magic

While checking out the October issue of Harper's Bazaar, I came across this gorgeous fashion editorial staring Emma Watson. The clothes in the shoot are absolutely drool worthy! I love the colors, especially the sapphire blue jacket by Vivienne Westwood. Check out a snippet of the issue here, with Kirsten Dunst as the cover girl.

Eerie Excitement

I love Halloween. It is definitely on my favorite holiday list. So, when I spied these on Martha Stewart's website I couldn't resist. I'm thinking of trying the Creepcakes first (don't you love the name?) and the spiderweb eggs- fun ideas to play around with. I am already thinking about my costume and the annual Halloween party. Start counting down the days!

Confectionary Pictures

Popping in to say hello- there is a storm brewin' here at school and I am safely inside, watching the clouds thunder from the top floor of the English building.
.
Here are some of my favorite finds for the week: these pictures of the Nutcracker production in New York by photographer Rachel Papo. I love the colors, the combination of silk and organza... dessert for my eyes!

The other pictures are from Amy Atlas and her genius party skills. I love everything she does- I tried to keep from drooling. She has great ideas I would like to try out at my next party. (her story is also inspiring! she went from law to creative planner--all in a day's work.)

Have a colorful day!

Delightful Distractions

Long time no see... I am sorry, my life has been so hectic- lets just say, I didn't go to bed before 1a.m. any day of last week. This week will definitely be better (I hope). Here is my weekend happenings: On Friday
I watched Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day. Absolutely delightful! I loved this move and would recommend it to anyone nostalgic about the glorious days of hose, dresses, hats, and swing music. I am on my way now to purchase a copy. I loved the clothes and the whole feel. If I could, I would have been born in that era.
For inspiration, here are some of my favorite modern interpretations:
.
this cardigan
and this dress
.
That is the type of style I covet, adore, drool over... you get my point.
.
My nephew and niece Taylor and Emily (5 and 2) came over on Sunday, and we got to run around together-- literally. Emily kept exclaiming, "Running is fun!" {insert cute voice here}-- at least I got some exercise. Megan and I also watched Ballet Shoes with Emma Watson in it-- a great movie as well. The little girl inside of me was totally entranced. I finally cleaned up my room too- the floor is bare, the clothes folded- all in preparation for upcoming decorating schemes- I am so excited! First we are getting to all the painting (Meg and I share a room), and then start with the decorating. I am going to sew some stuff for the bed like pillows and such.
.
Anywoo- mores stuff to come- pics of the September book in progress, my sewing stuff, anything else of interest...
.
Have a great day! Make someone smile today!

Can I Borrow A Pencil?

First Day of School Impressions:
  1. British Literature 291: "...and hence..." This is a phrase I anticipate hearing many times. She sure loves these two words.
  2. British Literature 292: Mustached men are in abundance (apparently mustaches naturally follow British Literature; must have something to do with the accent.)
  3. Sign Language 101: Silence is not golden. Not when I can't understand what my professor is trying to say, no matter how many times she gestures or raises her eyebrows. Let's just say, my only answer for now is "My name is Melissa" in sign.

More classes to follow, including Literary Interpretation and American Literature History. (If you can't guess, I am an English major, which you start to dread after you see yourself thrust in theory, grammer, Shakespeare, Milton, and Swift). I haven't had too much time for fun crafts or sewing projects- I am trying to get all my reading and assignments done on Friday and Saturday so I have Sunday off to relax and prepare for more of the onslaught.

I thought it appropriate to post these fabulous pictures from the Uppercase Gallery's exhibit on vintage classrooms and art inspired from the theme. I love everything about it. Just smell the erasers and pencil shavings. Nothing can beat it.

Happy weekend living! Enjoy the last dregs of summer weather!

The Project Has Begun...

September has finally arrived! I love it when the fall months start to peek their faces. Well, here are the promised pictures (I know, you can scold me for lateness- I'm truly sorry!) My book is going to be for the whole month of September, so I will post the updates as I add the pages. I titled mine "click"- I wanted to focus on pictures that inspire me.

I can't wait to work on them! My mind is churning with all the ideas! School is officially starting tomorrow, so wish us luck as we hit the books! Happy crafting!
